Watch a short overview of Romans 15

Dig In:

Passage: Romans 15

Dig Deeper:

Chapter Summary

  • v1-13 - As Paul begins concluding this letter, he makes three points in the opening section of chapter 15: - Those who are strong must seek to build up those who are weak; - God's Word was written to give you endurance, encouragement and hope; - Accept one another in the church despite whatever differences we have.

  • v14-27 - Paul tells of his desire to plant the seed of the gospel in new fields, as well as of his current plans to go back to Jerusalem with money collected to help Christians there who are enduring a famine.

  • v28-33 - Paul details exactly what his plans are in heading west to Spain with the Gospel and stopping in Rome along the way. Although it seems like he has everything figured out, God has different plans for him. Paul will certainly end up in Rome, just not at all the way he intended.

Old Testament Reference -

  • Psalm 117 is the shortest of the Psalms. Paul quotes the first half of it in v11. Look it up and read the second half.

  1. 'Unity' is a hot topic in society today, but so often the calls for unity seem shallow and vapid. After reading chapters 14-15, how does the concept of being 'in Christ' make true unity possible?

  2. From what you see in the first seven verses of this chapter, how would Paul describe our highest purpose in life?

  3. How does the benediction in v13 summarize the teaching of the book of Romans, especially as it relates to peace?

Dwell:

Keep one of these phrases in your mind throughout the day and come back to it often, asking God to speak to you through these words:

  • v2 - Build others up

  • v6 - Glorify God with one mind

  • v13 - Overflow with peace and hope

Follow the AAA Prayer Pattern:

  • ACKNOWLEDGE WHO GOD IS: The God who gives endurance and encouragement (v5), the God of hope (v13), the God of peace (v33)

  • ALIGN YOUR LIFE WITH GOD'S WILL: Pray that by God's grace your focus will be on pleasing & building up others rather than yourself (v2)

  • ASK GOD FOR WHAT YOU NEED:
