January 6 - Mark 6

Updated: Mar 17, 2020

Dig Deeper:

  • MESSIANIC SECRET: The opening scene of chapter 6 gives some indication as to why Jesus has been keeping His true divine identity a secret. Mark summarizes this in v6.

  • CROWD WATCH: v31 & 54 show that the crowds keep getting bigger & bigger and are causing many logistical issues for Jesus and the disciples. Why do you think the crowds are coming out in such numbers?

  • PRETTY COOL FACT: Compare v50 with the passage we looked at a few weeks ago in church: John 16:33. Jesus uses the same word to comfort His disciples (and us) in both passages. Use an online study bible (Faithlife or BibleGateway) to read these verses in several different translations. See how many similarities and differences you can find in both passages.

  • KEY LESSON: Once again in v46 we see Jesus, in the middle of all the busyness and activity, making time to separate Himself and spend time in prayer. If it was so important for the Son of God to do this often, how important is it for you?

Prayer Tips:

  • Pray that God will give you faith to recognize Jesus in every part of your life.

  • Ask God to prompt you throughout the day to separate yourself from the busyness and spend a few moments in silence & prayer.

  • Thank God throughout the day for the ability to 'take courage / take heart / be of good cheer' that's taught in v50 and John 16:33.
