What is your only comfort in life and in death?
That I am not my own, but belong body & soul, in life & in death, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven. In fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to Him, Christ by His Holy Spirit assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly ready from now on to live for Him.
What must you know to experience this comfort?
How sinful I am 2) How God forgives my sin 3) How to thank God
How did people become corrupt?
Our first parents, Adam and Eve, disobeyed God, and because of this, people are born as sinners.
Will God allow our disobedience to go unpunished?
Certainly not! He is angry about the sin we are born with and also the sins we personally commit. God is a just judge and must punish sin.
What kind of mediator do we need?
We need someone who is truly man , truly righteous and more powerful than all creatures. He must also be truly God.
Why are you called a Christian?
I am called a Christian because I believe in Christ and show that by confessing His name, living a life of thankfulness, and fighting against sin.
How are you right with God?
Only by true faith in Jesus Christ. Even though I sin and don’t keep any of God’s commandments perfectly, God credits me with the righteousness of Jesus.
What are sacraments?
Sacraments are God’s holy signs and seals for us to see. They were instituted by God so that by our use of them He might make us understand more clearly the promise of the gospel.
